Budget 2025: Shot in the arm for startups with Rs 10K cr new fund of Funds

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement of a new Fund of Funds (FoF) with an expanded scope of Rs 10,000 crore has brought cheer to the Indian startup sector, which has been navigating a funding winter for the past few years.

The initial FoF, announced by the government in 2016 with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore managed to catalyse commitments worth Rs 91,000 crore, said the minister. She added that the centre will explore a Deeptech FoF to provide a stimulus to the next generation of startups incubated in the country.

“The Alternate Investment Funds (AIFs) for startups have received commitments of more than Rs 91,000 crore. These are supported by the Fund of Funds set up with a Government contribution of Rs 10,000 crore. Now, a new Fund of Funds, with expanded scope and a fresh contribution of another Rs 10,000 crore will be set up,” said the FM in her speech while presenting the Budget.

ChatGPT has received support for Google Drive and Dropbox, as well as a meeting recording mode

OpenAI has added new features to ChatGPT for business users — cloud storage integration and meeting recording mode, said Nate Gonzalez, product manager at OpenAI.

ChatGPT Team, Enterprise and Edu users can now connect to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Sharepoint and Box. This allows you to ask questions about stored documents and spreadsheets, for example: "What was the company's revenue in the first quarter of last year?" The model will respond taking into account corporate access rights and add a link to the source.
A separate meeting recording mode has been added, allowing you to create notes from meetings. The system generates text with timestamps and highlights key points and tasks. This feature is currently available only to ChatGPT Team plan users.

OpenAI is actively expanding its offerings for the enterprise segment. According to the company, ChatGPT already has 3 million paid business users — a million more than in February of the same year. Among its clients are Block, Canva, Estée Lauder, and PwC.

As a reminder, OpenAI recently added a memory feature to ChatGPT for non-subscribers. This allows the bot to take into account not only saved data, but also recent conversations to provide more personalized responses.

IIT-Madras launches School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to boost startup ecosystem

The Indian Institute of Technology–Madras (IIT-M) has launched a School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship to provide structured academic support for the creation of startups.
“Our goal is to emerge as the leading school for innovation and entrepreneurship in the next five years and put IITM on the map of entrepreneurial universities across the world,” Prabhu Rajagopal, Head, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship told The Hindu. “The goal is primarily to provide an academic footprint to the entrepreneurial activities that are going on inside the campus,” he added.

According to Mr. Rajagopal, who is a serial faculty-entrepreneur and a faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department, the school will offer a wide range of academic and non-academic programs, cutting-edge research in innovation and entrepreneurship, and a distinctive lab-to-startup pathway through the MS in Entrepreneurship (to be offered from the July-November 2025 semester). “We will bring all the innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives on campus under this school. For example, the Centre for Innovation (CFI) and Nirmaan will now come under the school.
