Biography

Dr. Afzal Shah is Professor of Chemistry in Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad. He obtained Postdoc from the University of Toronto in 2014. He is the author/coauthor of 350 articles in peer reviewed international journals, with h- index 56. He is editorial board member of 7 journals. Stanford University has recognized his contributions by including his name in top 2% World Research Scientists Ranking for four consecutive years since 2020. He is the recipient of several national and international awards including two Gold Medals, one at the university level and another at the national level (Pakistan Academy of Sciences, 2021), ACS Cash Award (2016) in recognition of his publication in the ACS flagship journal, Elsevier’s Royalty Award (2019) for his book contribution, Best Paper Award (2015), A-Category Research Productivity Award (2015) and multiple Performance-Based Annual Increment Awards (2012-2024). He is the recipient of certificate from the Royal Society for the most cited author of RSC Advances for the year 2024 and certificate from Elsevier for contributions to SDGs, His research interests include: Electrochemical sensors, biosensors and nanobiosensors, Sustainable development goals related to the nexus among health, energy and environment, Electron transfer in biological molecules, Sensors for the detection of toxic metal ions, Electrochemical recovery of precious metals, Electrochemical detection and photocatalytic degradation of water contaminants of emerging concern, Detection of food toxins for quality assurance, food safety and security, Sensors for the detection of cancer biomarkers, Forensic sensors for evidence analysis, Sensors for the analysis of NSAIDs and their metabolites, Redox responsive drug delivery devices, photoelectrochemical sensors for pathogens detection, Microbial fuel cells, Electrolyzers, Batteries, Supercapacitors, Electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide and nitrates into valuable products.
