Safwan Abdulrahman Taha graduated from Basrah College of Medicine, IRAQ, on 1983 with honors, became Professor of Surgery, with distinction, on 2000 and founding Dean of Thi-Qar College of medicine, IRAQ, in 2003.   He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Glasgow, Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, Specialization Diploma in laparoscopic Surgery from Louis Pasteur University; France, the Certificate of the Arab Board of Surgery and is the only surgeon to win the prestigious SAGES “Travelling Fellowship Award” twice, in a raw (2006 & 2007). Prof. Taha is member of the ASMBS, IFSO, SAGES and ELSA, SCOPE certified and designated both as “Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery” and “Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery” by the Surgical Review Corporation; USA. Prof. Taha was the first (founding) President of the UAE Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (2013-2016) and, then, elected as Governor of the Chapter for 2 successive terms (2016-2022). He was also founding member of the Emirates Obesity Surgery Interest Group, currently the Emirates Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ESMBS). He has more than 60 published papers in peer reviewed journals & a book chapter, is an international speaker with special interest in the role of AI at enhancing the efficiency of surgical outcomes, the Editor of the Journal of Robotic Surgery (Springer Nature) and reviewer for several international journals including Obesity Surgery, the official journal of IFSO. Prof. Taha served as the Medical Director of Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital Abu Dhabi from 2008-2020 (inclusive) and is currently:
