Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a specialized field within psychology that studies the relationship between brain function and behavior, with a focus on how structural and functional abnormalities of the nervous system influence cognitive processes and emotional regulation. By integrating principles from neuroscience, psychology, and clinical practice, neuropsychologists assess and treat individuals with brain injuries, neurological disorders, developmental conditions, and cognitive impairments. Common areas of evaluation include memory, attention, executive function, language, and visuospatial skills. Neuropsychological assessments play a critical role in diagnosis, rehabilitation planning, and monitoring of conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, dementia, epilepsy, and neurodevelopmental disorders. As brain imaging technologies and cognitive science advance, neuropsychology continues to deepen our understanding of the brain-behavior connection, contributing to both clinical innovation and foundational research in human cognition.
