Yoga and Mental Health Integration

The integration of yoga into mental health care represents a holistic and evidence-informed approach to enhancing psychological well-being. Rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, yoga combines physical postures (asanas), controlled breathing (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana) to promote balance between the body and mind. Contemporary research supports the effectiveness of yoga in reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), while also improving mood regulation, emotional resilience, and cognitive function. Yoga-based interventions are increasingly incorporated into therapeutic programs as complementary practices alongside conventional treatments such as psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. This integrative approach not only addresses mental health symptoms but also fosters self-awareness, mindfulness, and a deeper sense of inner calm. As the mind-body connection gains recognition in clinical settings, yoga continues to emerge as a valuable tool in the multidisciplinary management of mental health.
