Kalayu Mebrahtu Kiros, MSc, is a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Mekelle University and MHPSS Project Coordinator at HAQI Foundation in Ethiopia. With academic training in psychiatry and community mental health, he has over seven years of experience in clinical practice, program coordination, trauma-informed care and capacity building across post-conflict and humanitarian settings. He has delivered dozens of trainings on MHPSS, GBV, and trauma recovery to diverse professionals across Ethiopia and actively provides outpatient psychiatric care and academic supervision. Kalayu is a published author in the areas of depression, epilepsy, and mental distress, and he serves as a peer reviewer for leading journals, including BMC Psychiatry, Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, Annals of Medicine and Surgery and Asian Journal of Education and Social Studies. Kalayu’s contributions span across academia, field-based programming, and scientific publishing, making him a strong advocate for integrated mental health services and research in resource-limited and crisis-affected settings.
